I think the real skill of a great trainer can be seen in the positive impact they have on areas of their clients’ lives that go beyond the physical. My goal for each client is more than helping them get more fit; I want to change their life. Here are a few of the lives in which I have been lucky to take part.

Lisa Thenell (May 2012)

I had my evaluation with Athletic Engineering yesterday (this is the new PT group I am working with at Olympic). She put me through a series of strength exercises (one-legged balances, squats, planks) to see how strong my core was. She was impressed! Not only do I have great core strength but she rated me a level 3!! (Which is the level that hard-core athletes are rated).

It is all thanks to you! You have done an amazing job strengthening my core and hips and I thank you!!

Tim is a professional who has a personal side to his coaching and business. The combination of expertise and skill with the love he shares with clients gets results. Workouts are hard but respectful to the client in order to gain the most advantage from weight loss and building muscle.

What Tim has done for me I will never be able to repay; and I still have a long way to go. I hope that he continues the professional training he provides to me as well as the personal care and love that I feel. Honestly, I would have given up a long time ago, but Tim was there with a smile noting, "You can do it Ken!" That personal touch makes all the difference!!!

After 30 years of no exercise and now trying to attain a healthier lifestyle for retirement, I found Tim Koffler who has turned me around. In six months he helped me accomplish a 16-pound weight loss with routines that also built my strength and balance.

I am amazed at what regular exercise can accomplish. Tim is a wonderful motivator and a very knowledgeable trainer. He will change your life, as he did mine.

I am writing to say hello and to thank you for your training of me and helping me to better focus on fitness. I consider you the top trainer I have known including all of my coaches throughout my collegiate and professional track and field career.

I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know this.

I have been working out with Tim for roughly 8 weeks now. I was always a gym rat from college until my late 40s when I was hit by a series of health issues, one worse after the other, over a five year period. I had to learn to walk again twice during that period, once due to brain surgery for vertigo, and the second, most recent time being caused by fractured bones all over my body due to kidney disease.

Thank God I regained my health but my body was very different from its former self. My doctor and I, to say the least were very worried about my getting back into a workout routine again. After 2 years of trying on my own without much success, I found Tim in July 2012 and it has been the best thing for my physical and emotional well being. I have gotten over fears of falling with Tim's guidance. He checks me closely on my form so I won't injure myself and pushes me to my limit. But what he is really pushing or challenging is my ability to have faith in myself.

So now, eight weeks later, I have seen marked changes in my body, strength, balance and all around well being. I even feel attractive again. And it doesn't hurt that we usually laugh throughout our training sessions. He is a pleasure to be with. Thank you, Tim, for bringing me back to myself.

Tim has been my trainer since August of last year (2011) and he has totally changed my life; made it better in so many ways. . I feel healthier – both mentally and physically, I have more energy and I actually look for opportunities to put more exercise into my life. My two days each week with Tim have been the best two days of my week; I actually look forward to our sessions – which says a lot for a (now) reformed couch potato! Tim makes working out fun; with his stories & jokes I hardly know I am exercising - except for the sweat dripping down my face! He pushes me further than I think I can go or would ever try on my own. He has a knack for knowing just how far to push and just-a-bit beyond for that extra oomph. I have had trainers at various gyms I have gone to and two things that set Tim apart from all others are that he cares and he actually listens. Tim is a great motivator, “no” does not seem to be in his vocabulary – and it has inexplicably left mine as well where he is concerned. Really, I don’t say “no” because I trust him and I know that he would not have me do something he knows I am not capable of doing. Tim is extremely knowledgeable and I feel comfortable asking him questions, knowing I will get a straight answer and if necessary a solution or suggestion and he always follows up.

Without being overly dramatic, I don’t feel it is a stretch to say that I owe Tim my life. Thanks to Tim’s help and guidance, I have lost 60 pounds so far, and am steadily losing more. I was on a course of making very unhealthy choices and was starting to feel the effects of those choices with changes in my health and body. He helped changed that course to one of being healthy and active. Tim has given me the confidence and skills to make changes in my life to be the healthy & active person I have always wanted to be and to actually enjoy the journey. Thanks Tim, you are the best! I thank God I met you that Sunday evening on July 31st!

"I woke up this morning thinking about yesterday's workout, and how much I appreciate how good you are. You tell me to make little adjustments -- like arching my back for the lat pulldown twist thing -- that feel SO much better.

You are clearly not making shit up, at least not all the time! Anyway, just wanted you to know that I recognize and appreciate how skilled you are."

Tim is my first personal trainer and wow, what a difference having a personal trainer makes. He's careful and caring and irreverent and fun. Very approachable and non-intimidating. I feel stronger and fitter than I have in years.

I blogged about Tim here

Tim is an outstanding trainer. His focus is on your health needs and fitness goals. He uses several exercise strategies to address specific needs appropriately and to keep the workouts fun (though always tiring).

He starts with what you can do.

Tim is effective with all skill levels. A great personal trainer.

Carrie Greaves (2007 - 2008)

Tim gets results for his clients; the workouts that he designed for me made me work harder, and dig down deeper than I had before. I got much stronger and had more stamina after working with him. He is also very charming and likable; even as he kicks your butt!

Michele Kohler (2007 - 2010)

Tim is an amazing trainer with the unique ability to get you to push yourself harder than you ever thought possible, and make you laugh at the same time. Very detail oriented and knowledgeable.

I was seeking variety to my "running routine" and stumbled across Tim's group boot camp class at the Seattle Athletic Club. I was immediately hooked. His circuit routines had our hearts pounding and bodies dripping with sweat (in a good way).

After the 6-week class ended, I signed up for personal sessions to maintain my weigh training program as I dread going to the gym to "lift" on my own. His workouts are fresh, innovative and fun. He always adds variety tailored to meet any fitness goal you may have. Not to mention, he's very personable and trusting to put you at ease as you embark on your fitness adventure.

Being a hedonist by nature, I can think of a lot of things I'd rather do than workout, but Tim's sessions were fun; the level of difficultly was incrementally adjusted to match my increasing level-of-fitness; and I even looked forward to our sessions. I was in the best shape of my life when I worked out with Tim with the added benefit that the training improved my squash game. Now if he could only make beer and burgers a super food…

I came to Tim in 2010 for help, post-illness, to get back in shape, lose weight and train for a return to marathon running. I knew immediately that Tim was the perfect trainer for me!

I had several health issues I was recovering from along with an extremely bruised ego from losing so much endurance after being an athlete for the past 20 years.

Tim consistently offers exercises that were challenging and that work multiple body groups. He pushes you to excel and refuses to let you quit when he knows the only thing standing in the way of doing one more flight of stairs - is your own self-doubt.

Tim really listens to your needs and works with you to customize your workouts to achieve your personal goals. Tim not only got me the starting line of my marathon - literally - he helped me lose weight, manage my asthma, and boost my self confidence. I recommend Tim for any level of fitness - beginner to elite athlete

Linda Stores (April 2008)

Tim brings not only his advanced physical fitness background to each session, but boundless energy, a truly pleasing personality, and amazing people skills.

His interest in and enthusiasm for providing a buffet table of fitness/health-related opportunity is not matched anywhere else in Seattle that I’ve seen, and over time, I’ve been a member of at least three other clubs.

I’m pretty much an old bat, but Tim sees me clearly as a person, with goals, and has extended me his support in achieving them. Since I have several decades on him, I find his oddly a mix of amazement and comfort. I try to take myself seriously (without being an ass about it), and have never wanted to settle for less than I can achieve, irrespective of age. I think I can be fit and healthy up to 100+, and Tim agrees.

He challenged me to register for the Danskin Triathalon; I did that in Seattle’s 12 hour window. I’ve a long way to go, but will certainly be better off by mid-August – thanks to Tim – than I am now. What a personal coup!

Just a quick not to let you know I am looking forward to celebrating your 33rd with you. You have become a great part of my life the last several months, a true inspiration, a driving force behind my health and fitness goals and a good friend.

I am so grateful I happened across the notice for the Oyster Racing Series back in July last year, not only because I completed that ridiculous event thanks to your training program, but more importantly met you. I know you touch many lives throughout the course of your day, each one of us is very lucky to have you!

First of all, I understand congratulations are in order! While you were away Tim and his team put on a great program with the Lose It program.

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated it and the professional efforts they put into it. It was well thought out and the weekly tips on target and well written. The professionalism and enthusiastic energy that Tim brought to the program was appreciated.

I had reached a plateau in my weight loss and fitness level, and set up an appointment with Tim after a recommendation from a friend. Less than 6 months have passed, and under his guidance I have lost 30 pounds and now have an incredible level of stamina and balance. I plan to lose a few more pounds and have visible "abs" by next summer; I'm absolutely certain Tim can get me there!

When I started training with Tim 4 1/2 years ago, I had worked with other trainers before. But Tim took my workouts to another level.

He introduced exercises that I did not think I'd be capable of doing. He changed the routines all the time to keep me challenged and see the results I wanted.

Tim is an awesome trainer, demanding and creative. He is always ready with a new ideas; he has an eye for my weaknesses and strengths; he is supportive and extremely knowledgeable. I love the training sessions with Tim; he pushes me harder than I would ever do myself. He is always there for me, easy going and reliable. And he doesn't take "no" for an answer...

Tim also worked with me during several months when I had a severe back problem; he adjusted our workouts and helped me get healthy again. I'm very grateful for that.

I'm determined to train with Tim as long as I can lift a 2 pound dumbbell!

I first started seeing Tim as my personal trainer in August 2007 nearly 2 years ago. Simply and succinctly stated Tim changed my life.

Prior to seeing Tim I had a very unpleasant albeit brief experience with another personal trainer at another club. This was particularly discouraging because it took me years to get the courage to see a personal trainer. For the prior 25 years my major exercise consisted of jogging jogging jogging. I became very frustrated (and bored) with jogging and I gained 10 pounds even though I exercised at least six times per week. I was 57 years old, getting increasingly flabby and increasingly unhappy with myself and my body. This was further complicated by the fact I have a very stressful job as Professor of Microbiology at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine. I run a virus research laboratory of 35 people, very intense people.

Thankfully Tim entered the picture, "took pity" on me, and started me on my road to recovery and better mental and physical health. After almost 2 years I have lost those 10 dreaded pounds, improved my physical appearance and strength, and have a dramatically improved attitude about life. Now (if you didn't know me) you may think that I am easy going and praise all kinds of people. That could not be further from the truth. I am a very intense and very demanding "type A" personality. Indeed I have never written a letter of complete praise like this for anyone.

I have seen Tim an average of 3 – 4 times per week for the past 2 years. This represents not only quite an emotional and time (and financial) commitment on my part but also a strong and dedicated commitment from Tim as well. For the past 2 years Tim has been undeterred by my whining and complaining and has become not only the "best trainer" in the universe but also a friend and a psychotherapist as well. As someone who has been in and out of therapy for years I can tell you personally that Tim has "helped" me more than any trained MD or PhD in psychology and psychiatry. Although Tim is relentless and demanding he has introduced incredible discipline to my physical training regime.

I've been working out with Tim Koffler since the first week of February. I've noticed a dramatic difference in my fitness level, confidence, and desire to break through to higher levels of muscle development and cardiovascular endurance.

Tim's professionalism is unrivaled: he has great command of the body's muscles: how they work, how they're connected, and their capabilities. Far more important, Tim is compassionate, patient, and highly motivated. He wants his clients to achieve, and every workout is time well spent.

I've never had an injury working out with Tim. And yet, he has pushed me beyond levels of fitness I never thought I'd breach. No two workouts are the same, and we always manage to have fun.

Regardless of your current fitness level or the objective you have in mind, Tim will customize a program of diet and exercise that is right for you. Whether your path is individual or group exercise, you'll be astounded by how quickly you'll reach your goals and objectives.

In the past many years, I have worked with three different personal trainers, including Tim Koffler. Tim is encouraging and makes me want to keep coming back. He has inspired this old guy to at least try to stay fit. I know that by trying to stay in shape everything in my life goes better.

The time that I spend working out with Tim has always provided me a welcomed break from the everyday stresses and problems that ordinary life brings. It is the best time and money I could spend on my health.

I am so happy I signed up for the 100 Days. It has made a tremendous difference and you have made it so much fun! It's the fun part that's so important for me. I'm clearly not one of those solitary athletes who has the inner discipline to keep a Spartan regime. Swimming laps is the exception to this because I love the water, but I really thrive when I'm around people who combine a sense of purpose with a sense of humor. I admire Tim's attentiveness to technique and the variety of things he teaches me make all the difference in the world.

(Regarding Tim Koffler's uniquely designed '100 Days of Fitness' program that introduces participants to a new style of exercise each week for 14 weeks.)

Are you ready to change your life? Every one of my clients shown above achieved their health and fitness goals with a unique fitness program designed specifically for them. Contact me today to find out how I can support you.
